BLAIRSTOWN: Donald H. Kopecky, age 86, died Sunday, June 25, 2006 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown following and extended illness.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, June 27, 2005 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel in Blairstown. Interment will be held at the Czech National Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Friends may register from 10 AM until service time on Tuesday.

Don was born on November 11, 1919 at Cedar Rapids to Edward and Viola (Cook) Kopecky. In March of 1941 he married Anita J. Hanson at Vinton. The couple later divorced. Don served his country in the United States Army during WWII where he worked for Beach Head News. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded a Bronze Star and Marksmanship Medal. Don worked as a printer with his father at Arrow Printers in Cedar Rapids. He also worked at Iowa Manufacturing. After retiring, Don lived in Blairstown and remained there until moving to the Veterans Home in 2003. He was a member of the M.J. Kirby American Legion Post #170 in Blairstown. In his leisure, Don loved to pitch horseshoes.

Don is survived by his daughters, Diana R. Stotler of Marion, Sue Ellen (Ed) Willis of Lexington, KY; four granddaughters; twelve great grandchildren; and his brother, Edward Kopecky of Sun City, CA.; and his special buddy, Don Jensen.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials may be given to the Iowa Veterans Home Hospice.
