Mary Margaret Pope, 93

Funeral Mass for Mary Margaret Pope, 93, Newton, formerly of Millersburg, was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 23, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, North English. She died Monday, March 18, 2013, at Nelson Manor, Newton.

The Rev. Joseph Roost officiated at the service.
Burial was in the Millersburg Cemetery.

A general memorial fund has been established.

Mary Margaret Pope was born Oct. 17, 1919, in Iowa County, the daughter of James W. and Kathryn “Kitty” Carney Healey. She graduated from St. John’s Catholic School, Victor.

She married Lloyd John “Joe” Pope March 27, 1940, in Victor. She was a lifelong resident of Iowa County and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, North English.

She worked a number of years at the Landmark Restaurant, at nursing homes and in home health care. She was a kind and loving mother and loved to dance. She became a resident of Nelson Manor in September 2008.

Pope is survived by eight children, Mary Kay and Bob Beinhart, Harper; Leroy and Vicki Pope, Millersburg; John Robert and Connie Pope, Cedar Rapids; William “Bill” Pope, Millersburg; Janet and Dennis Kuennen, St. Lucas; Tom and Barb Pope, Millersburg; Terry and Debra Pope, Millersburg; Sheila and Buddy Bills, Kellogg; 27 grandchildren, John and Dawn Pope, James and Cathy Pope, Julie and Larry Steen, David and Cary Pope, Billie Joe and Tom Hotchkiss, Bob and Sheryl Beinhart Jr., Bradly and Janet Beinhart, Bryan and Amy Beinhart, Bev and Rick Conrad, Barb and Scott Shifflett, Gregg and April Pope, Garry and Kim Pope, Scott and Angie Pope, Penny and Greg Mara, Heather and Tom Barbee, Teresa Ludlow, Tracy Ribbing, Kyle and Christine Kuennen, Denene Kuennen, Kassandra and Omoro Crusoe, Sr., Mike and Tracy Pope, Melissa and Josh Schaedler, Nathan and Brandon Bills; 41 great-grandchildren, Corie Pope, Justin Pope, Jordon and Josh Van Kooten, Jessika and Jennifer Steen, Mason Pope, Lindsey and Kendall Gatton, Kelly, Bailey, Kylie Beinhart, Brock, Murphy and Brody Beinhart, Paige and Curtis Conrad, Gabriel and Sierra Pope, Carson and Zane Pope, John David and Emily Pope, Keegan Pope, Courtney Jagielski, Marcy Mara, Kyler, Amery and Curran Barbee, Brenden, Ashton and Tyler Ludlow, Cole and Gavin Ribbing, Alicia, Kamden and Reid Kuennen, Acceia and Omoro Crusoe, Jr., Brett and Abby Pope, Brock and Aaron Schaedler and three great-great-grandchildren, Kenley Gatton, Graceyn Van Kooten and Carson Pope; daughters-in-law, Paula Pope, Hutchinson, Minn., and Rose Pope, Marengo; one sister, Doris Oldaker, Monticello, and sisters-in-law, Lucille Healey and Margaret Pope, both Victor.

She was preceded in death by her husband, in June 1970; her parents; one son, Lloyd Paul Pope; grandsons, Stephen and Joseph Pope, and brothers John Healey, Melvin Healey and Harry Healey.
