Linda Kanke, 66

Funeral service for Linda Kanke, 66, Marengo, was held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 23, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo. She died Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at her home.

The Rev. Andrew Gray officiated at the service.

Burial was in the Marengo Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Essence of Life Hospice or Marengo Memorial Hospital.

Linda Lee Kanke was born Sept. 25, 1946, in Iowa City, the daughter of Ray and Violet Ziegler Slaymaker. She graduated from Iowa Valley High School in 1964 and attended Paris Beauty School in Cedar Rapids.

She married Wayne Myron Kanke April 12, 1969, at First United Methodist Church, Marengo. She was owner and operator of her own beauty salon for many years.

She was a member of the American Legion 76 Auxiliary and St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo. She enjoyed NASCAR, especially Jeff Gordon, playing jokes on people and just having fun. She loved to reminisce of her younger days, doing hair and manicures with her granddaughters and listening to Elvis music.

Kanke is survived by her husband, Wayne; her children, Stacy and Travis McMann and Jock and Mandi Kanke, all Marengo; 11 grandchildren, Stephanie and Nathan Ballard, Katelin and Andrea Healey, Molly and Macy McMann, Tre and Lorenzo Gonzalez, Sahara, Carli and Hayden Kanke, all Marengo; her siblings, Sam and Carole Slaymaker, Marengo; Alice and Richard Rohrer, Hartwick; Lee and Suni Slaymaker, Marengo; Don and Shirley Slaymaker, Marengo, and Steve and Jan Slaymaker, Conroy, and one sister-in-law, Gerry Formanek, Marengo.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Clement Slaymaker, in 1996.
