Edna Z. McMenomy was born Oct. 6, 1916, near Millersburg, the youngest of eight children of Robertia and Edna (Dell) Berstler Wyant. She graduated from Millersburg High School in 1934.

She married Eugene (Bub) McMenomy Nov. 18, 1939, in Williamsburg. They were blessed with four children. The couple lived and farmed their entire lives in Iowa County. Upon retiring, they lived in North English until his death. Following her husband’s death, she moved to Williamsburg.

In addition to farming, she had worked at the Millersburg school cafeteria, Landmark, Middle America and Chatter Box. She also worked at the Williamsburg Nursing Home, Hillside county home and Kingsbury Homes.

She always had a large garden and filled the basement each year with canned items from the garden. In her earlier years, she was known for the angel food cakes she made from scratch. The children remember her always telling them “Do not go into the kitchen, a cake is in the oven.” She also enjoyed making quilts and had made many beautiful quilts for family and friends. She never met a stranger and was friends to everyone she met. She loved going to church and felt bad when she could not attend in her later years.
McMenomy is survived by her children, Judy and Jim Andrew, Waxhaw, N.C.; Peggy and Ken Walton, Viola; Ray McMenomy and Deb Adams, Oxford, and Phyllis and Don Kohlman, Follsom, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Eugene (Bub); her parents; five sisters, Grace Browner, Mabel Taylor, Esther Wyant, Lottie Powers and Gail Miller, and two brothers, Charles Wyant and Erwin Wyant.
