Julie Ellen Getter was born May 8, 1944, in Iowa City, the daughter of Leland G. and Lucille Kauffman Eggert. She grew up attending Ladora, Marengo and Iowa City schools, followed by the University of Kansas, where she met and married her husband.

Due to his career in higher education, the couple lived in numerous college towns including Lawrence, Kan.; Forth Worth, Texas; Cedar Rapids; Lynchburg, Va.; Oberlin, Ohio, and Hanover, N.H., before retiring to the Washington, D.C., area in 2001.

She had a long career as executive assistant and office manager for outstanding physicians in Cleveland, Ohio, retiring in 1993 after moving to New Hampshire. She loved her children and grandchildren and focused her later years on their interests. Her thoughtful deeds and words will stay with them forever.

Getter is survived by her husband, Michael, Carlisle; one son, Joseph and family, Middletown, Conn.; one daughter, Amy and family, Columbia, Md.; one sister, Linda Irwin, Dallas, Texas, and aunts and an uncle, Boneita Eggert, Marengo, and Isola and Durl Schletzbaum, Pleasantville.
