Memorial service for Clarence L. Olswold, 92, Amana, was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Walford. He died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at Colonial Manor of Amana.

Per his wishes, his body was donated to the University of Iowa for medical research.

The Rev. David Mosher officiated at the service.

Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Walford.

Clarence Lester Olswold was born May 28, 1920, in Lyle, Minn., the son of Henry and Lillie Bagstad Olswold. He graduated from Lyle High School in 1937.

He married Clarice Kirkeby Aug. 16, 1941, in Osage. On April 5, 1942, he joined the Navy where he served for three years on a submarine during World War II.

In 1945, he returned to Osage where he owned and operated a plumbing business. In 1967, the couple moved to the Amana and Williamsburg area, where he worked as a cabinet and clock maker at Amana Furniture.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Walford, and Sub Vets of World War II.

Olswold is survived by his wife, Clarice; his sons, Eugene, New Ulm, Minn.; Allen and Kathy, DeSoto, Texas; Charles and Alice, Muscatine; Richard and Bonnie, Middlesex, N.Y., and Ronald and Debbie, Walford; nine grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mae Lugg.
