John Appleget, 83

Celebration of life service for John W. Appleget, 83, Williamsburg, was held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at St. Paul United Methodist Church, Williamsburg. He died Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City.

The Rev. James Parks and the Rev. Helen Parks officiated at the service. Organist was Sue Heitmann and vocalists were Helen Parks and Sonya Parsons.

Burial was at 1 p.m. in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Sigourney. Casket bearers were Phil Osweiler, Cody Westfall, Jessie Bruer, Roger Rathjen, Dean Appleget, Russ Heitmann and Clarence Appleget.

A general memorial fund has been established.

John William Appleget was born Aug. 20, 1929, near Ollie, the son of Dallas Dale and Clarys Eloise (Moore) Appleget. He graduated from Sigourney High School and attended Iowa State University, Ames. He served in the Korean War from 1950 to 1954 as an Airman 1st Class in the United States Air Force.

He married Mary Serena Beach Nov. 1, 1953, in Sigourney. The couple lived in Seneca, Ill., while he worked at Caterpillar Tractor Company as a machinist for 32 years. After his retirement, the couple moved to Williamsburg in 1994.

He was an active member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Williamsburg, and enjoyed woodworking. He was a good, hardworking man.

Appleget is survived by his wife, Mary, Williamsburg; two sons, Charles and Danita Appleget, Joliet, Ill., and Roy and Katie Appleget, Fairfield; four grandchildren. 11 great-grandchildren and one brother, James Appleget, Mitchellville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Mary Charlene Appleget, and one brother, Paul Appleget.
