James Uden, 76

Funeral service for James L. Uden, 76, Marengo, was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo. He died Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at Marengo Memorial Hospital.

The Rev. Andrew Gray officiated at the service.

Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Earlville.

A memorial fund has been established.

Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, was in charge of arrangements.

James Lee Uden was born Nov. 6, 1936, in Ocheyedan, the son of Ellsworth and Marie Meyer Uden.

He married Esther Stock June 16, 1957, in Coon Rapids. He worked at the ERTL Toy Company and EMCO in management and manufacturing quality.

He served as an elder at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Delaware. he served on the city council of Earlville as well as mayor and was a member of Toast Masters International.

He enjoyed watching the activities of his children and grandchildren and was an avid Hawkeye fan.

Uden is survived by his wife, Esther, Marengo; two sons, Joel and Deb Uden, Coralville, and Jeff and Nancy Uden, Hudson; two daughters, Cheryl and Kevin Zumbach, Dubuque, and Julie Engelken, Ankeny; 11 grandchildren, Megan Uden, Jenna Uden, Carrie and Ryan Frasher, Sarah Wolf, Brian Wolf, Josh Engelken, Gabrielle Engelken, Justi Uden, Trey Uden, Alan and Jessie Zirtzman and Amy Zirtzman; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Melvin Uden, Ocheyedan, and one sister, Joann Radunz, Ocheyedan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Sandra, and eight brothers and sisters.
