Ruth Stout

Celebration of life service for Ruth E. Stout, 88, Williamsburg, was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at the Powell Funeral Home, Williamsburg. She died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at Highland Ridge Care Center, Williamsburg.
The Rev. Gary Van Heukelom officiated at the service.

Burial was at 2 p.m. in the Kossuth Cemetery, Mediapolis.

A memorial fund has been established for the Highland Ridge Benevolent Fund, Disabled American Veterans or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Ruth Eloise Stout was born March 10, 1924, in Panora, the daughter of Frank Lee and Helen (Burgess) Walker. She graduated from Burlington High School. She received secretarial training and worked as a secretary for the Iowa Employment Security Commission office for 34 years.

She married William Lane Stout March 17, 1944, in Mediapolis. She grew up in the Burlington community, lived in Des Moines after she married and moved to Williamsburg in 2000.

She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary for the Disabled Veterans. She enjoyed bowling, gardening, arts and crafts and watching the Cubs.

Stout is survived by two children, Nancy Prizant and Ed Truslow and Ralph and Liz Stout, all Des Moines; three grandchildren, Lisa McMillin, Kelly McNulty and Douglas Stout; two step-grandchildren, Jill Crees and Brian Truslow; four great-grandchildren, Sidney McMillin, Stuart McMillin, Jake Stout and Phillip Stout; five step-great-grandchildren, Emily, Foss, Griffin Truslow and Sadie and Charlie Crees; one great-great-grandson, Bently Stout; one sister, Marjorie Nelson, Mediapolis, and one brother, Robert Walker, North Webster, Ind.

She was preceded in death by her husband, in 1954; her parents; one brother, LeRoy Walker; one sister, Kathryn Hemphill, and one grandson, Rick Stout.
