BIOGRAPHICAL:

William McCAULEY was born in County Tyrone, Ireland, May 15, 1815; and died at his home in Marengo, Iowa, on Monday, September 9th, 1895, aged eighty years, three months, and twenty-four days.

He was married to Mary J CLEMENTS July 25th, 1849, with whom he spent fourty-six years of wedded life, leaving her a childless widow to follow on alone in life. They came to America in the spring of 1851, living at Patterson, New Jersey, one year, and at Cleveland, Ohio, five years. They moved to Iowa County, Iowa, in the spring of 1857, having lived in and near Marengo over since. By persistent industry, while living on a small place, he secured means for his comfort in the recent years of feebleness, and to provide for the welfare of his widow hereafter. For thirty-eight years he was a member of Fair View Wesleyan Methodist Church, and for many years was an unfailing attendant at all the social and public services of the church. He was buried from the ME Church, Rev. SA Gilley conducting the services. The end of his life was comforted by the assurance of gospel, hope, and faith.
