Eunice Walton, 100

Funeral service for Eunice F. Walton, 100, Marengo, was held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. She died peacefully Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo.

The Rev. Diane Miller officiated at the service.

Burial was in the Keota Cemetery, Keota.

Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church or Rose Haven Nursing Home, both Marengo,
or Hospice of Compassus, Cedar Rapids.

Eunice Freda Walton was born July 22, 1912, near Austin, Minn., the daughter of Howard Voorhees and Nellie Grace Stamp Bower. She graduated from Keota High School in 1930 and attended Iowa State Teacher’s College, Cedar Falls, earning a certificate to teach.

She taught country school in rural Keota until her marriage.

She married Carl Henry Walton Dec. 26, 1933, at the Lutheran parsonage in Washington, Iowa.

The couple farmed for many years in Washington County before moving to Marengo in 1996. He died Aug. 12, 1998, and she made her home at Rose Haven in 2004. She was a homemaker and devoted mother to two sons. She enjoyed playing cards, gardening, reading books, cooking and entertaining in her home.

The family would like to thank Rose Haven Nursing Home and Hospice of Compassus for their loving care. They will be forever grateful.

Walton is survived by one son, Dennis and Peggy Walton, Marengo; one grandson, Jeffrey and Kathy Walton, Belvidere, Ill.; two granddaughters, Debra and Daniel Quinlan, Marengo, and Emily Walton, Cedar Falls; one great-granddaughter, Jeana Quinlan, and three great-grandsons, Aidan Quinlan and Evan and Elliot Walton.
