Donald DeMonbrun, 80

Graveside services for the Rev. Donald L. DeMonbrun, 80, Marengo, were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, at the Marengo Cemetery. He died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, at Colonial Manor of Amana, after a long battle with dementia.

Jim Dusenberry officiated at the service.

A memorial fund has been established.

Donald Lewis DeMonbrun was born Oct. 19, 1932, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Lewis F. and Beulah Mitchell DeMonbrun. He attended Midwest Bible College, St. Louis, Mo., and graduated with a degree in pastoral studies.

He married Shirley Marshall Aug. 11, 1951, in Elviston, Ill. He served as pastor of many churches in Missouri, Illinios and Iowa, serving most recently as pastor of Springfield Community Church, Springfield, S.D.

He held many leadership positions in his life. In addition to being a clergyman, he was Youth for Christ director in Iowa, state director of Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF) in South Dakota, regional director of CEF National and state director for Easter Seals.

He was a pilot, a radio announcer, a missionary and was named the Jaycees’s Man of the Year.

DeMonbrun is survived by his wife, Shirley; his children, Susan and Norland Hofer, Huron, S.D.; Chris and Larry Fullmer, Marengo; Frank and Rose DeMonbrun, Johnston, Colo.; Betty and Bob Rutherford, Lomard, Ill., and Edith and Victor Quan, Belize City, Central America; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gerald and Marjorie, Independence, Mo., and Douglas and Linda, Manhattan, Kan., and one sister, Patricia DeMonbrun, Raytown, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
