Funeral services for Bruce F. Jones, 59, Iowa City, were held at noon Tuesday, Oct. 16, at Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City. He died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Burial with military honors was in the Oakland Cemetery, Iowa City.

A memorial fund has been established.

Bruce Franklin Jones was born May 25, 1953, in Council Bluffs, the son of Stewart and Virginia (Caven) Jones. He attended school in Marengo and graduated from Iowa Valley High School in 1971. During Vietnam he served his country in the United States Army.

Jan. 13, 1979 (when a blizzard hit), he married Diane Furler in Marengo. He and his family had lived in the Iowa City/Coralville area for the last 28 years.

He was employed by the City of Iowa City as a lab technician for over 28 years. He was a member of the American Legion and his favorite pastime was watching NHRA drag racing, especially his favorite driver, Don Force. He was also known to watch a lot of sports on television.

Jones is survived by his wife, Diane; one daughter, Tracy Jones, Iowa City; two brothers, Bob and Sue Jones, Hiawatha, and Tom and Susie Jones, Texas; one sister, Judy and Dean Uchytil, Belle Plaine; a half-sister, Delores and John Valdez, West Des Moines; his mother-in-law, Lauretta Furler, Marengo, and numerous other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Brian F. Jones, and one sister, Kathy Breja.
