Michael Hawkes, 66

Graveside services for Michael A. Hawkes, 66, South Amana, were held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12, at the South Amana Cemetery. He died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012, at his home.

Church elder Harold Pitz officiated at the service.

A memorial fund has been established.

Michael Allen Hawkes was born Oct. 22, 1945, in Cedar Rapids. He attended the Amana schools and graduated from Amana High School in 1964. He served with the U.S. Army Reserves for six years.

He married Deborah Roggentine Jan. 20, 1968, at Trinity United Church of Christ, rural Marengo.

He was employed as a design engineer with Amana Refrigeration. He was a member of the Amana Church Society and served on the board of directors for the Amana Arts Guild.

He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and photography in his free time.

Hawkes is survived by his wife, Deborah; two daughters, Chanda and Keven Adams, Maryville, Mo., and Deanna and Steven Oujiri, Lakeville, Minn.; five grandchildren, Jacob, Alana and Aaron Adams and Connor and Ellen Oujiri, and his mother, Dorothy Jane Nagel Hawkes, High Amana.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
