Memorial services for Donald C. Langlas, 91, Williamsburg, were held at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17, at First Presbyterian Church, Williamsburg. He died Monday, Aug. 13, 2012, at the English Valley Care Center, North English.

The Rev. Kip Murphy officiated at the service.

Private family inurnment with military honors followed.

Memorials may be made to the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Foundation, the Williamsburg Library or First Presbyterian Church.

Donald Conrad Langlas was born Nov. 25, 1920, in Marengo, the son of Harry Ray and Nelle Conrad Langlas. He graduated from Marengo High School in 1939 and attended Iowa State University for two years. He served in the U.S. Army for three years.

He married Lucille Irene Mittelbach June 12, 1943, in South Amana. The couple farmed until 1967. He was then employed as a business manager for Williamsburg Schools from 1967 to 1974. He served as the Iowa County Assessor from 1974 to 1988.

He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, the Lions Club and First Presbyterian Church, Williamsburg, where he served as an elder and treasurer. He was a Williamsburg school board member from 1958 to 1967. He served as an election official and as a magistrate.

He enjoyed golf and was a member of Sport Hill Country Club. He also enjoyed woodworking and reading.

Langlas is survived by his wife, Lucille; two daughters, Dian and Carlos Boysen, Hiawatha, and Sandra Reed, North Liberty; four grandchildren, Tyler and Anne Wright, Kansas City, Mo.; Colin Wright, Iowa City, and Adam Reed and Logan Reed, both Denver, Colo., and one sister, Donna McGurk, Cedar Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Doris, Marjorie and Helen, and one granddaughter, Jennifer.
