Mass of Christian burial for Leonard F. Cline, 86, Guernsey, was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Brooklyn. He died Friday, Aug. 3, at his home.

The Rev. Brian Shepley and the Rev. Philip Ryan officiated at the service.

Burial was in Calvary Cemetery with military honors.

A memorial fund has been established.

Leonard Frederick Cline was born Aug. 31, 1925, in Brooklyn, the son of George Andrew and Margaret Theresa Kriegel Cline. He attended Poweshiek County schools.

He was a lifelong member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Brooklyn.

He served in the U.S. Army for two years. When he returned home, he married Doris Lucille Neitzel April 19, 1950, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Brooklyn. He spent his life farming.

He was a member of Brooklyn American Legion Post 294 and the Farm Bureau. His interests were his faith, his family, farming, fishing and reading. He loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He especially enjoyed the time he spent with his family, attending family events, going to dances, sitting on the front porch with Doris and making noodles.

Cline is survived by his wife, Doris; his children, James Cline, Guernsey; Carolyn and Dennis Ashby, Des Moines; Kathleen and Chuck Baetsle, Hartwick; Beverly and John Archuleta, Hot Sulphur Springs, Colo.; Loretta Cline, Grinnell; Robert and Lynette Cline, Cedar Falls, and Rita and Jerry McVey, Grinnell; six grandchildren, Staci and Ken Andrick, Greenfield, Ind.; Joe and Amy Baetsle, Brooklyn; Margo Cline, Cedar Falls; Kyle Cline, Cedar Falls; Angelina and Greg Willard, Des Moines, and Elizabeth Ashby and fiance Scott Fuchser, Alexandria, Va.; nine great-grandchildren, Dylan Cheshier and Wyatt Andrick, Bobbi Jo, Brandi, Emma, Charlie and Anna Baetsle, Perpetua and Felicity Willard and baby Willard on the way, and his siblings, Mildred Moyer and Evelyn Wiley, both Grinnell, and Bernadette Cline and Paul Cline, both Brooklyn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Darold, in infancy, and Harold, Joe, Francis and Manus, and one sister, Dorothy Cline.
