Ronald Schumacher, 78

Funeral services for Ronald E. Schumacher, 78, Marengo, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 19, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. He died Sunday, July 15, 2012, at his home.

Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Blairstown.

A memorial fund has been established.

Ronald Eugene Schumacher was born April 10, 1934, in Sumner Township, Iowa County, the son of Leo F. and Margaret May Hartin Schumacher. He graduated from Marengo High School. He went to work at Amana Refrigeration, Middle Amana, and remained there over 45 years.

Following his retirement from Amana Refrigeration, he worked at the Amana Golf Course.

He loved to visit with family and friends. He enjoyed playing cards and the fish fries at the American Legion. A highlight of his life was seeing the presidential plane land at the airport. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending their activities.

Schumacher is survived by his significant other, Dee Ann Wilhelm; a daughter, Connie and John Pegump, Walford; three sons, Kevin and Teresa Schumacher, Jefferson City, Mo., and Jeff Schumacher and Mark and Shelly Schumacher, all Amana; seven grandchildren, Justin and Julie Pegump, Teran Pegump, Jessie and Kate Schumacher, Niki Schumacher, Tyler Schumacher, Sheena and Josh Hogue and Kyle Schumacher; three great-grandchildren, Aria Pegump, Zachary Schumacher and Joseph Schumacher; one sister, Margaret Whittaker, Lenexa, Kan., and four brothers, Norman Schumacher, St. Louis, Mo.; Larry and Gloria Schumacher, Marengo; James and Kathy Schumacher, Fairfax, and Edward and Gloria Schumacher, Cedar Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Thomas.
