Loretta Bahr, 86

Funeral services for Loretta J. Bahr, 86, Cedar Rapids, formerly of Amana, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 25, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. She died Thursday, June 21, 2012, at Living Center West, Cedar Rapids.

The Rev. Katie Dawson officiated at the service.

Burial was in the Marengo Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Camp Courageous.

Loretta J. Bahr was born July 5, 1925, in Marengo, the daughter of Joe and Allie McGee McWilliams. She graduated from Marengo High School in 1944. She was salutatorian of her class and a member of the National Honor Society. During her senior year, she worked as a secretary for W.I Agee.

She married Kenneth “Kenny” Bahr Oct. 29, 1944. they had a long and loving 59 year marriage. The couple lived in the Amanas for 40 years.

She was a homemaker for 19 years. In 1963, she went to work at the Amana Woolen Mill office and later transferred to the Amana Furniture Shop office.

Following their retirement, the couple moved to Fort Dodge. He suffered a stroke in 1996 and they relocated to Cedar Rapids in 1999 to be close to her daughter. Her husband died in 2003. She remained in Cedar Rapids and her life revolved around her family.

She enjoyed talking with Nancy daily and keeping current on the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Visits from Nancy and Bill were the highlight of her days.

The family wishes to thank the staff of St. Luke’s Hospital, Living Center West and Hospice of St. Luke’s.

Bahr is survived by one daughter and her husband, Nancy and Bill Skripsky, Walford; one son and his wife, Kenny Joe and Connie, Goshen, Ind.; five grandchildren and their spouses, Rob and Lisa Jones, Temperance, Mich.; Brenda and Doug Nejdl, Belle Plaine; Jason Bahr, Fort Dodge; Andy Bahr, Santa Barbara, Calif., and Tiffany and Jason Arnett, Fort Wayne, Ind.; eight great-grandchildren, Colton, Connor, Natalie and Brayden Bahr, Alison and Abigail Jones and Brooke and Wyatt Nejdl, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Cecil and Bob McWilliams, and four sisters, Burnetta Gerwig, Anita McWilliams, Grace Kelly and Juanita Schneekloth.
