Marcia L. Sparrowgrove, 77, Marengo, died Monday, June 18, 2012, at the Marengo Memorial Hospital. Private family graveside services will be held at the Marengo Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established at the Farmers Trust and Savings Bank, Williamsburg.

Marcia Lee Sparrowgrove was born Feb. 25, 1935, in Buffalo, N.Y., the daughter of Leland Orcutt and Louise C. Kirchin Beardsley. Her parents died in 1936 and 1937 and she was raised by her aunt and uncle. She graduated in 1953.

She married Harold Eugene Sparrowgrove May 30, 1956, in Salome, Ariz. She was a wife and mother, remaining in the home to raise her three daughters. When they were older, she returned to school, taking classes to become a nurse.

She worked at Marengo Memorial Hospital as a medical assistant and LPN, and also worked at the University of Iowa Hospital. She was then employed at Rose Haven Nursing Home for 15 years, retiring at age 65.

She was compassionate and loving to all. She enjoyed fishing, the outdoors and working with animals on the farm. She was a talented artist who loved to paint and draw. She was an avid reader and writer.

Sparrowgrove is survived by her husband, Harold “Sparky” Sparrowgrove; three daughters and their husbands, Cheryl and Allen Worcel, Michele Sparrowgrove and Sandra and Lorne Koenig, all Marengo; 11 grandchildren and their spouses, Marcia and Luke Kilgard, Williamsburg; Clay and Kiley Koenig, Marengo; Tiffany and Joe Kriegel, Marengo; Cassie and Matt Bunkers, Marion; Cole Koenig, Marengo; Chris and Tanya Sparrowgrove, Ladora; Molli Sparrowgrove, Zach and Mariah Worcel, Trevor Worcel and Dylan Worcel, all Marengo; 15 great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Kathryn and Landon Kilgard, Tyson Kriegel, Rosalynn and Cecilya Bunkers, Kenley and Carter Koenig, Hannah and Abby Sparrowgrove, Elijah Garringer, Kyra and Paxton Cardine and Lily and Roman Worcel; one sister and her husband, Carolyn and Ed Schilling, Syracuse, N.Y., and one brother, David Swain, Malibu, Calif.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the aunt and uncle who raised, her, Marjorie and Clifford Swain; two brothers, Spencer Beardsley, in childhood, and Russell Swain.
