Memorial Mass for Lois M. Cooney, 89, was held at 10:30 a.m. June 9 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Grinnell. She died June 5, 2012, in the care of Grinnell Regional Hospice at St. Francis Manor.

Memorials may be made to Grinnell Regional Hospice or St. Francis Manor.

Lois Mae Cooney was born Nov. 3, 1922, in Hurley, S.D., the daughter of Earl and Katherine (Kies) Hoyle. She graduated from Marengo High School.

She married Joseph L. Cooney Nov. 8, 1941, in Inglewood, Calif. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Grinnell. She managed a lunch program for seven years.

She loved to crochet and found great joy in giving away her projects, especially to children. She also liked working sudoku puzzles and was a sports fan.

Cooney is survived by her children and their spouses, Gary and Elaine, Mike and Jade, Emmett and Kristin, Frank and Debbie, Tim and Janine, Jeanette and Garth and Della; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one sister, Gladys Jones, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; four children, Kathleen, Patricia, Paul and a stillborn daughter, and three brothers, David, Guerdon and Jim.

Joseph and Lois Cooney

Graveside inurnment services for Joseph and Lois Hoyle Cooney will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 30, at Calvary Cemetery, Marengo.
Joseph died Dec. 21, 2011, and Lois died June 5, 2012.

Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, is in charge of local arrangements.
