Obituary.

Peter Mumm was born in Heide in the state of Holstein, Germany, Sept. 16 1834 and came to America when young. He enlisted in Co. E in the second regiment of Iowa Calvary Volunteers in Sept. 2nd, 1861 and re-enlisted as a veteran March 1, 1865. On returning from the war he was married May 14th 1866 to Miss Anna Elizabeth Neinburg who still lives as his sorrowing widow. There were born to this marriage eight children, six sons and two daughters all grown to adult life and able to be present at the funeral services.

Their first home was at Moline, Ill's., where they resided several years. They removed to a farm near Pilot Grove where they lived until nearly a year ago, when, on account of his failure in health, a residence was taken in the town of Williamsburg. There his death occurred Jan. 28th, 1902.

Mr. Mumm was baptized, confirmed and admitted to membership in the National Lutheran church of Germany and regarded himself as a Christian. In the faith of Christ it is thought he lived and died. He was a brave and patriotic soldier and suffered much for his country. His conduct was commendable as a retired veteran soldier, also as a citizen, neighbor, husband and father. He was a member of the grand army of the Republic and delighted in the comradeship of the old soldier. He was kindly and inoffensive and especially attentive to the sick and suffering.

Farewell comrade and brother we bode to meet thee in Heaven.
P.
