Funeral services for Charles Hewitt, 91, were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 26, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Victor. He died Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at Colonial Manor of Amana.

Burial was in St. John’s Cemetery, Victor.

Charles Hewitt was born Sept. 27, 1920, in Eldon, the son of Rollan and Myrtle Palmer Hewitt. He was raised and attended schools in Eldon.

He honorably served in the United States Navy during World War II as a first class engineer.

In July 1938, he married Alyce Mitchell. The couple later divorced.

He married Adella Demmel Nov. 20, 1966, in Ottumwa. He spent most of his life working as a mechanic for F.D. Potts Motors, Marengo, retiring in 1986. Following his retirement, he continued to work on vehicles and farm machinery for friends and family.

He was a member of the Victor American Legion Harold E. Smith Post. He had a passion for the outdoors, especially camping, hunting and fishing. His greatest love was spending time with his family, friends and his dog Joe.

Hewitt is survived by three daughters, Charla Farnum, Eddyville; Carole Warner, St. Joseph, Mo., and Vickie Rhodes and husband Fred, Victor; one stepdaughter and her husband, Cheryl and Duane Hiner, Conroy; grandchildren and their spouses, Jeff Demmel and Kris Gibson, Homestead; John and Wendy Demmel, Marengo; Jennifer and Fred Philipp, Cedar Rapids; Joel and Becky Demmel, Homestead; Angela and Michael Banger, Fairbank; Allen Hiner, Williamsburg; David Farnum, Estherville; Donald and Kathy Farnum, Brooklyn; Robert and Krista Farnum, Eddyville; Larry Rohrer, Victor; Toni Rohrer, North English; Traci Warner, Nick Warner, Rick Warner and Benji Warner, all Missouri, and several great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; two daughters, Judy Meyer and Cheryl, in infancy, and three brothers, Les, Jay and Don Hewitt.
