Ruth A. Gordon, 101, died Saturday May 5, 2012 at the Anamosa Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 10, at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa, where friends may call after 10 a.m. Interment will be in Cedar Memorial Cemetery. Pastor Laurie Riley will officiate at the services.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
Surviving are five grandchildren, Cindy Vogel, John (Debbie) Gordon, Jan (Tom) Dole, Mike (Kim) Gordon and Brad (Karen) Gordon; 10 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leonard; two sons, Roger and Robert; and four brothers, Archie, Glen, Perry and Elbert White.
Ruth Amanda White was born Oct. 4, 1910, in Mahaska County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Charles A. and Rosa J. Cox White. Ruth graduated from the Springville High School in 1926. She went on to attend Cedar Rapids Business College.
Ruth White and Leonard Gordon were married on Jan. 1, 1929, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua.
The couple operated a grocery store for a brief time in Ladora before moving to Martelle. Leonard was the postmaster in Martelle and Ruth was his clerk. In 1972, she was appointed as the postmaster. She retired as the postmaster in 1977. Ruth was a member of the United Methodist Church and was a 60 year White Rose Temple of the Pythian Sisters.
Ruth was strong in faith and devoted to her church. She cherished her time spent with Leonard, her sons and grandchildren, her family and many friends. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, bingo with friends, weekends at their cabin in Harpers Ferry and was a great cook and hostess to their family gatherings.
