A funeral mass with military honors for James Edward Carville, formerly of Amana, Iowa, was held in Mountain Home, Ark., Saturday, April 28, 2012.
Jim passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2012, in Mountain Home, at the age of 84. He was born Oct. 4, 1927, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Thomas and Zela Turner Carville.
He married Mary Lucille Ritchie on Sept. 3, 1953, at Anchorage, Territory of Alaska and worked as a trainman, conductor and brakeman for the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad. James was a journeyman carman. In his 44 1/2 year career, he worked for the Crandic, Alaska, United Pacific and the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroads where he went from a gandy dancer to a Mahogany Desk in Washington, D.C., as the inspector for the Association of American Railroads.
Jim was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran of World War II and Navy Reserve veteran of Vietnam. Jim lived in Mountain Home since June 2000, moving from New Smyrna Beach, Fla He was a member of St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, life member of the V.F.W., 35 year member of the B.P.O. Elks, 66 year member of the United Transportation Union and a member of the Retired Railroad Club of Mountain Home. Jim was also a very active member of the American Legion for 66 years having held numerous local, state and national offices.
Jim is survived by his wife, Mary Carville; one daughter, Pamela (Gilbert) Wahl of St. Thornton, Colo.; one granddaughter, Lisa (Stuart) Detlefsen of Thornton, Colo.; and two sisters, Rose Mary (Henry) Schuhmacher and Shirley (Kenneth) Neumann, both of Amana.
Burial will be in the Fairfax Cemetery, Fairfax, Iowa.
Memorials may be made to St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, the American Legion or a charity of choice.
