Funeral services for Janice K. Weiss, 67, Marengo, were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 14, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo. She died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, at her home.

The Rev. Douglas Morton officiated at the service.

Burial was at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 15, at Mascoutah, Ill.

A memorial fund has been established.

Janice Kay Weiss was born Dec. 22, 1942, in Belleville, Ill., the daughter of Herbert and Helen Barker Schumacher. She graduated from Freeburg High School in 1960 and attended Missouri Baptist Hospital College of Nursing.

She married Phil Weiss Sept. 7, 1963, at the Freeburg United Church of Christ, Freeburg, Ill. She spent her life working with many volunteer organizations, including HACAP, Iowa County Task Force, Iowa County SEATS, the budget and planning committee and the Heritage Agency on Aging through Kirkwood.

She received several awards for her work, among them, the Governor’s Volunteer Service Award.

She was president of the Marengo Garden Club and enjoyed gardening and shopping. She loved to spend time with her children and friends and attending her grandchildren’s events.

She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo.

Weiss is survived by her husband; one son and his wife, Herb and Carolyn, Kalona; two grandchildren, Zachariah and Lauryn; one uncle and his wife, Emery and Doris Barker, Brooklyn, and many cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and numerous aunts and uncles.
