He farmed many years before becoming a farm equipment sales manager for International Harvester until his retirement in 1989. He moved to Maryville, Tenn., after retiring to be close to his family.

Throughout his life he loved dogs, horses, hunting and conversation. He will always be remembered for his great storytelling.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Doris; one daughter and her husband, Sandra and Scott Dahms, Westerville, Ohio; one son and his wife, Dr. Steve and Sue Kiefer, Maryville; grandchildren and their spouses, Jeff and Nikki Dahms, Kevin Dahms, Kelly and John Saalwatcher and Nicholas Kiefer, and three great-grandchildren, Michael Dahms and Shelby and Taylor Dahms.

He was cared for and loved by the dear staff of Williamsburg Villas and his personal caretaker, Kathy Turman. His family will always be deeply indebted to those compassionate people who provided him the best quality of life possible during the last year.
