Memorial services for Marjorie P. Jones, 87, Omaha, Neb., formerly of Marengo and Daytona Beach, Fla., will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, July 29, at First Presbyterian Church, Marengo.

She died Friday, May 28, 2010, at Lakeside Hospital, Omaha, following an extended illness.

Her cremains will be buried next to her first husband, Ed Jahr, in the Marengo Cemetery July 29, the same day the couple were married 66 years ago.

Marjorie P. Jones was born March 1, 1923, in Spirit Lake, the daughter of Victor E. and Pearl M. Madsen Bernholt. She attended Spirit Lake schools and graduated from Spirit Lake High School. She graduated from Northwest Institute of Medical Technology in 1942.

She married Edward Jahr in Spirit Lake in 1944. The family moved to Marengo in 1956 to open a Western Auto franchise. Later, they purchased Craig Insurance, changed the named to Jahr Insurance and added a real estate division.

Following her husband’s death in 1968, she worked for Dr. Burns M. Byram. It was then she met Wally Jones. They were married in 1972 and resided in Marion until 1984 when they relocated to Daytona Beach. She remained there until 2009 when she moved to Omaha to be closer to family.

Jones is survived by one daughter and her husband, Victoria and Tom Hegarty, Omaha; two sons and their wives, David and Chris Jahr, Frankfort, Mich., and Ralph and Ann Jahr, Princeton, N.J.; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and her cat, Smokie.

In addition to her husbands, Edward Jahr and Wallace Jones, she was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Bonnie Ridgway. Her brother, Victor E. Bernholt II, died 10 days following Marjorie’s death.
