Sally J. Pierson, 61, beloved mother and sister, died Friday, June 18, 2010, in Fallbrook, Calif.

She was born Jan. 18, 1949, in Des Moines, the daughter of Clifford and Bettie Boley. The family lived in North English and she attended English Valleys Schools until 1965 when the family moved to Johnston. She graduated from Johnston High School and attended the University of Iowa for several semesters. She volunteered for the Air Force in 1969 and became a surgical technician. During her tour of duty, she was stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base near Spokane, Wash., and Clark Air Force Base in the Philippine Islands. After her discharge, she completed her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Eastern Washington University.

She worked in Washington, Minnesota and California as a registered nurse in both emergency room and home health care.

She was an avid genealogist and loved history, travel and reading. Her favorite periods in history were the Civil War and World War II. Her most recent travels took her to Egypt, Greece, Alaska and Scotland. Her favorite book was “Atlas Shrugged.” Strong minded and passionate would best describe her.

Pierson is survived by her children, Catherine, Christopher, Benjamin and Kyla Rose; her siblings, Sue, Chris, Clifford, Jane, Andy, Ellen and Matt, and many other relatives and friends.
