Funeral services for John F. McGuire, 82, Ladora, were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. He died Sunday, July 18, 2010, at Marengo Memorial Hospital with family members at his side.

The Rev. Jim Davis officiated at the service.

Burial was in the Ohio Cemetery, rural Ladora.

Memorials may be made to Marengo Memorial Hospital.

John Fredrick McGuire was born Oct. 16, 1927, in Iowa County, the son of Clarence and Dora Begunck McGuire. He attended Iowa County schools and graduated from Ladora High School.

He married Elizabeth Keller June 16, 1950. She died in 1979.

He married Norma Coghlan Sept. 19, 1981. He farmed for many years, worked for Harold Nail in Ladora and worked at Donaldson’s Muffler Manufacturing in Grinnell until his retirement.

He enjoyed farming, horses, camping at the Iowa State Fair and spending time with his family and friends.

He was a member of the Ohio Methodist Church and the Ladora Saddle Club.

The family wishes to acknowledge the excellent care provided by the staff at Marengo Memorial Hospital.

McGuire is survived by his wife, Norma; two daughters, Pat Fry, Smyrna, Tenn., and Barb McGahuey and husband Terry, Ladora; three stepchildren and their spouses, Jill Happel, Brooklyn; Paula and Dave Doran, Ladora, and Jay and Tessie Coghlan, Marengo; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Jennifer and Brian Schnebbe, Pella; Jessica and Ben Van Waus, Victor; Matt and Lezlie Fry and Mike and Kelly Fry, all Smyrna; Tyler and Samantha Happel, Victor; Tawny Happel, Connor and Mariah Doran, all Ladora, and Dawson Coghlan, Marengo, and six great-grandchildren, Michael and Nicole Schnebbe, Owen, Olivia and Aiden Van Waus and Hayden Fry.

In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Marie Kruse.
