Betty J. Macku, 80, Blairstown, died Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010, at Virginia Gay Nursing and Rehab, Vinton, following an extended illness.

Private graveside services will be held at Luzerne International Cemetery, Luzerne.

Betty Jean Macku was born Jan. 24, 1930, in Denver, Colo., the daughter of Daurice F. and Lela M. Soiney. She graduated from Belle Plaine High School in 1948.

She married Lumir C. Macku Oct. 7, 1949. The couple farmed near Luzerne before moving to Blairstown in 1963.

She enjoyed writing letters to friends and family and creating hand-made greeting cards with her stampers.

“Send me no flowers, cry me no tears, think of the memories, over the years.”

Macku is survived by her children and their spouses, Jeanne Kochuyt, Ladora; Charles and Cynthia Macku, Cedar Rapids; Brenda and Joe Notch, Blairstown; Jeff and Paula Macku, Swisher, and Randy and Melissa Macku, Blairstown; her grandchildren, Marie Homan, Laura Kochuyt, Brook Kugley, Ashley Sawdey, Maddie Notch, Felicia Macku and Travis Macku; her great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Homan, Bobbi Beck and Michael Kugley and her brothers and their wives, Carroll and Kathryn Miner, Belle Plaine, and Leland and Sally Miner, Cedar Rapids.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her stepfather, Bernard Miner; her son-in-law, Larry Kochuyt; her cousin, Rosa Lee Martin, and her pen pal of 50 years, Pat Cocklin, Wapello.
