Celebration of life service for Henry “Hank” Von Ahsen, Conroy, was held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Williamsburg. He died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2010, at Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo.

The Rev. Richard Meyer officiated at the service. Organist was Connie Von Ahsen. Soloist Brad Schaefer sang “How Great Thou Art.” Musical selections included “I am but a Stranger Here” and “I Know My Redeemer Lives.”

Burial was in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Casket bearers were Derek Von Ahsen, Trent Von Ahsen, Kurt Von Ahsen, Paul Dane, Jessie Von Ahsen and Lance Von Ahsen. Honorary casket bearers were Bryce Von Ahsen, Philip Dane, Kenneth Dane and Ethan Von Ahsen.

Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church and Lutheran Interparish School.

Henry Otto Carl “Hank” Von Ahsen was born Jan. 7, 1926, in Iowa Township, Iowa County, the son of Henry and Frieda (Huedepohl) Von Ahsen. He was baptized Feb. 7, 1926, and confirmed March 17, 1940, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. He attended Immanuel Lutheran School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He married Laverna A. Lorenz July 25, 1948, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. He was a lifelong farmer in the Iowa County area and a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where he served as a church elder.

He enjoyed farming, carpentry, playing cards and most of all, spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Von Ahsen is survived by his wife, Laverna Von Ahsen, Conroy; six children and their spouses, Gene and Diane Von Ahsen, Homestead; Randy and Carole Von Ahsen, Williamsburg; Ken and Susan Von Ahsen, St. Charles, Mo.; Shirlene and Richard Dane, Waverly; Michael and Kristi Von Ahsen and Kevin and Debbie Von Ahsen, all Williamsburg; 17 grandchildren and their spouses, Darcy and Brad Schaefer, Derek and Jessica Von Ahsen, Bethany Von Ahsen, Trent, Tiffany and Bryce Von Ahsen, Becky and Scott Dalton, Hope and Luke Scheele, Kurt Von Ahsen, Jennifer Dane, Paul and Jessica Dane, Kenneth and Laura Dane, Philip Dane, Lance and Ethan Von Ahsen and Jackie and Jessie Von Ahsen; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Elmer Von Ahsen, Blairstown, and one sister-in-law, Esther Von Ahsen, Newhall.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Erwin, Edgar, Art and an infant brother, and two sisters-in-law, Rosetta Von Ahsen and Norma Von Ahsen.
