Funeral services for Alice J. Nowotny, 81, North Liberty, were held at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 8, at Lensing’s Oak Hill, Coralville. She died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010, at her home following a short illness.

Burial was in Ridgewood Cemetery, North Liberty.

Memorials may be made to the Johnson County Humane Society.

Alice J. Nowotny was born March 3, 1929, in Marengo, the daughter of Theodore and Emily (Slaymaker) Heath.

She married Mel Nowotny Jan. 1, 1947, in Cedar Rapids. He died Jan. 23, 2010.

She worked as an accountant for many years, working for Helmsmen Heating and Cooling, Cedar Rapids, for a number of years and for various other contractor companies. She enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and traveling with her husband throughout the 50 states and Europe.

Nowotny is survived by two children and their spouses, Dennis and Nila Nowotny, Iowa City, and Diane and Raoul Benoit, North Liberty; one brother, Gerald Heath, Fairfax; two grandsons and their wives, Joeby and Stacy Dyer and Mike and Jacquelyn Nowotny, all North Liberty, and six great-grandchildren, Hayley, Samantha, Lisa, Ashley, Kaizer and Koyer.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.
