Eldon L. Vogt, 92, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Tuesday, March 29, 2011. Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, March 31, at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, Atkins, by the Rev. Doug Woltemath.

Visitation: one hour before the service Thursday at the church. Burial: Marengo Cemetery, Marengo, Iowa. Military honors will be provided. Arrangements by Murdoch Linwood Funeral & Cremation Services, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include his children, Eunice Eisher of Cedar Rapids, and Paul (Linda) Vogt of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren, Chris (Jennifer), Cameron and Caylie Vogt, Milisa, Derrick and Bret; one brother, Murlen (Gertrude) Vogt of Williamsburg; brother-in-law, Melvin Lorenz of Marengo; and sisters-in-law, Donna Possehl and Darlene Hacker, both of Marengo.

Eldon was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; his parents; and son-in-law, Keith Eisher.

Born March 26, 1919, in Homestead, Iowa, Eldon was the son of Philip and Katherine (Kuch) Vogt. Eldon served his country during World War II in several overseas theaters. After his discharge, he returned to Iowa and farmed with his family. On Feb. 23, 1947, he was united in marriage to Helen Hacker at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Marengo. Together they farmed in Marengo, Blairstown, Atkins and the Keystone area. In 1980, the couple retired and moved to Atkins. Helen died in 1997 and Eldon moved to Cedar Rapids a year later.

Eldon was a quiet man and farming and family were his life.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial be directed to St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Atkins.
