Funeral services for Charles W. Gorsh, 76, North English, were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Millersburg. He died at his home Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2010.

The Rev. Paul Nus officiated at the service. Burial was in the North English Cemetery. A general memorial fund has been established.

Charles William Gorsh was born July 15, 1934, in Pilot Township, Iowa County, the son of Frank and Ethel Mae Lacy Gorsh. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Reformed Church near Williamsburg. He attended Pilot Center School and later Millersburg Consolidated, graduating in 1954.

He worked several years at Amana Refrigeration.

He married Ruth Ann Faas June 9, 1957, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Millersburg.

He began his career as a mechanic at Sauter Chevrolet in Millersburg and North English. He also worked at Buckwalter Motor, L.L. Pelling Construction and was self-employed for seven years. He joined the Iowa County Road Department in July 1976 and retired from there after 23 years of service.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he served in several capacities on the church board. He was active in the community and was on the North English Community Center Board.

“Charlie” enjoyed life, hunting, fishing, golfing, gardening, playing cards and being with family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Gorsh is survived by his wife; one son and his wife, Jeff and Martha Gorsh, Webster; three daughters and their husbands, Kim and Curtis Wilkerson, North English; Karen and Tom Kerper, Iowa City, and Christine and Phil Hester, North English; eight grandchildren, Chris, Zach, Ashley, Amanda, Dana, Brooke, Dean and Emma; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Cecil Gorsh, Victor, and one sister, Vernita Nowotny, Victor.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Mabel Runyon, Mary Osweiler and Mildred Moore, and five brothers, Lloyd, Vernon, Russell, Alfred and Carroll Gorsh.
