OBITUARY.
MR. DAVID JENKINS was born near Bridge-end, South Wales, in 1821. His parents names were Thomas and Charlotte Jenkins, and they being farmers he was brought up to that occupation. He left home and went to the coal works in Aberdare, and in 1843 he was married to Miss Rachel Thomas who now being left a widow mourns the loss of a kind and affectionate husband. In 1851 they left their native land to go and seek their fortune in the gold regions of Australia. They however did not stay there long as the climite of the country did not agree with their health. In four years they returned to their native country and clime. They were not satisfied afterwards, but determined to try another country, and so came to the United States in 1858, and settled at first at Minersville, Ohio. Their dwelling there was but temporary, and in 1859 once more removed to the great west and came to the noble state of Iowa. They have been blessed with ten children, two of which died in their infancy, the remaining children were all at their father's funeral. He had been declining gradually for a long time, and some two years ago he went to his native land with the expectation of recovery from his disease, but he was disappointed, the disease had too much hold on him. They as a family left their farm two miles west of town and came to live in their house near the Presbyterian church as it was more convenient in every respect. But change of habitation gave no change of condition to our friend, he sank down the dark valley and at 12 o'clock, noon, June 30, 1887, he shut his eyes on wordly scenes and was changed from the present to the great future. His end was peace and our hope is that to him, "death was a gain." The funeral took place on Friday July 1, at 2 p.m., the services were held at the Cong. church, conducted by Revs. Thomas E, Hughes, W.R. Stewart and the pastor H. Davies, and was largely attended by sympathizing friends. D.
