Deep River. Gary Hopwood, 71 of Williamsburg, Iowa and formerly of Deep River, Iowa passed away Monday, January 24, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 AM on Friday, January 28, 2011 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma. Visitation will begin at noon on Thursday, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 Thursday evening at the funeral home. Interment will be held in the Goldenrod Cemetery in Deep River. Memorial contributions may be made to the Deep River Fire Department.

Gary Alan Hopwood, son of C.V. (Bud) Hopwood and Juanita Churchill Hopwood was born on June 1, 1939 at Deep River, Iowa. He graduated from Deep River High School in 1957. He then worked at Amana Refrigeration for 39 years before his retirement. He was a member of the Christian Church in Deep River. Gary was blessed with his three daughters, Debra, Shelly and Ana Hopwood. Gary enjoyed riding his motorcycle, listening to older country music and Bluegrass. He loved playing his guitar and driving around the countryside on day trips. In 2004, Gary moved to Highland Ridge in Williamsburg and loved his new home and all the residents and staff there.

His memory will be honored by his daughters, Debra Miller of Deep River, Shelly Reiten of Coralville and Ana Hopwood of Middle Amana; his four grandchildren, Jeremy (Bridget) Miller of Montezuma, Joel (Chris) Miller of Marion, Jenna Miller of Ames and Nick (Amber) Reiten of Kalona and one great granddaughter, Lola Miller of Montezuma; and one brother Jerry (Babe) Hopwood of Tifton, Georgia and other relatives and friends.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Jack and Vaughn and an infant sister.
