Funeral services for Phyllis Smith, 91, Deep River, were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, at Trinity United Church of Christ, rural Marengo. She died Monday, Nov. 15, 2010, at the English Valley Care Center, North English, following a brief illness.

The Rev. Bev Thompson-Travis officiated at the service.

Burial was in Zion Cemetery, rural Ladora.

Memorials may be made to Trinity United Church of Christ, 1895 200th St., Marengo, Iowa 52301 or the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance, 910 17th St. NW, Suite 1190, Washington, D.C. 20006, in honor of her granddaughter, Amy McMartin, who preceded her in death.

Phyllis Louise Plagmann was born Nov. 16, 1918, in Leader, Minn., the daughter of Frank and Bertha Bryant Plagmann. She graduated from Hilton High School, Conroy, in 1936.

She married Ivan Smith June 9, 1937, at the Trinity United Church of Christ parsonage, rural Marengo. He died Oct. 10, 1996.

She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ and was a former member of the quilting group at Trinity. She was a former member of the Zion Evangelical Reformed Church, rural Ladora, and was a loving mother and homemaker.

Smith is survived by three daughters, Sandra Stephens, Littleton, Colo.; Janice Albury and husband Ted, Cedar Rapids, and Carol Dale, Deep River; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Reginald Plagmann; one sister, Helen Hartz, and one granddaughter, Amy McMartin.
