He Retired from Farming Two Years Ago to make His Home in Williamsburg

William Slager passed away at […s] hospital Saturday, November 11. His death came suddenly due to a heart attack while undergoing a major operation. His health had been failing for the past five […s].

For nearly seventy years of his life he had been a resident of Iowa County and for the last two years of his life he had lived in Williamsburg as a retired farmer. Practically his entire life was spent in the vicinity of our town with the […otion] of seven years at North English.

He was born in Johnson County August 16, 1879, the son of Anthony and Mary Slager, who were early settlers of the state. His marriage to Annie Klever took place in Williamsburg, December 27, 1905.

To this union two sons were born, who with their mother survive the deceased. The sons are Truman Slager of Iowa City and Robert Slager of Williamsburg. He is further survived by four grandchildren; a brother George of Victor; three sisters who are Mrs. Estelle Klever, Mrs. Fred Klever and Miss Mary Slager all of Williamsburg.

For fifty years he was a Methodist communicant and at the time of his heath he was a member of Pilot Grove Methodist church.

The funeral was held in the [….] funeral home. The officiating clergymen were the Rev. John Nye and the Rev. J.B. Pritchard. Interment was in Pilot Grove cemetery. Pallbearers were: William Poulson, John H. Jones, […] McCallister, Charles Jones and George Bean.
