Ken Cover, 84, died October 13, 2010 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa.

He was born January 26, 1926 in North English, IA to Leon D. and Hazel King Cover.

He married Lois LaVonne Evans on Nov. 28, 1946 in Sutherland, IA.

Ken attended AIB in Des Moines. He worked for many years as a bookkeeper and controller in Wellman, Clear Lake and Mason City. He worked for 34 years as bookkeeper and assistant store manager at Damon's Department Store in Mason City.

Ken proudly served in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant in the European Theater of Operations. He was also a member of the VFW and Exchange Club where he also served as president. He was a very proud and attentive parent, grandparent, and great-grandparent.

Ken is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lois LaVonne Cover; his children, Steven (Mary) Cover of Des Moines, Diane Shannon of Cedar Falls, Craig (Donna) Cover of Omaha, and Brian (Laurie) Cover of Iowa City; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Velma Van Auken, Verla Gingerich and Mildred Wade.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Valley United Methodist Church, 4201 Ashworth Rd. in West Des Moines. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at the church. Memorials may be made to Ken's family.
