Graveside memorial services for Dr. George R. Zimmerman, 87, Burlington, formerly of Iowa City, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, at the Amana Cemetery. He died Thursday, Oct. 7, 2010, at the Great River Medical Klein Center, Burlington.
Church elder Alan Trumpold will officiate at the service. In addition, his wife, Dr. Ratri Keonin will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, at Prugh’s Funeral Home, Burlington. Memorials may be made to Great River Hospice, West Burlington.
Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, is in charge of arrangements, with assistance from Prugh’s Funeral Services, Burlington. Online condolences may be left at www.klosterfuneralhome.com.
Dr. George Rudolph Zimmerman was born Jan. 7, 1923, in Amana, the son of Carl H. and Helen Pecher Zimmerman. He graduated from Amana High School and attended the University of Iowa, Iowa City, graduating in 1951 as an M.D.
He married Dr. Ratri B. Keonin, M.D., Jan. 6, 1990, in Burlington. He served in the Air Force during World War II as a second lieutenant and was stationed at Perrin Field, Sherman, Texas.
Dr. Zimmerman is survived by his wife, Dr. Ratri B. Keonin, M.D.; three sons, Dr. Karl L. Zimmerman, D.D.S., and wife Barbara, Tucson, Ariz.; Dr. Kent G. Zimmerman, M.D., and wife May, Mesa, Ariz., and Jess K. Zimmerman, Ph.D., Canovanas, Puerto Rico; one stepdaughter, Niorn K. Nicholas, Overland Park, Kan.; four grandchildren, Scott and Kevin Zimmerman, both Tucson, and Alina and Malia Nicholas, both Overland Park, Kan., and one sister and her husband, Elsie and William Oehler, Amana.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Helen Louise Oehler, and her husband, Orville.
