Services for Hazel Slager, 81 Held Saturday

Services for Hazel Slager, 81, Williamsburg, were Saturday, June 12 at 1pm at Uhlmann’s Funeral home, Williamsburg, with the Rev. Marvin E. Ceynar officiating.

Mrs. Slager, who had been in failing health about six months, was bedfast six weeks following surgery for a pacemaker. She died June 10, 1976 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids.

Music for the service was by organist, Mrs. Brad Furman. Burial was in Oak Hill cemetery, Williamsburg. Pallbearers were: Robert Slager, Floyd Klever, Jack Yearian, Harry Rathjen, Alfred Klever, and Philip Jones.

Born Nov 19, 1894 at Marengo, the deceased was the daughter of John and Letitia Frances Poff Figg. She received her education in the Marengo school and has been a member of St. Paul’s Methodist church for about 30 years.

Her marriage to John Slager took place Jan 3, 1907. They farmed in the Williamsburg area for a number of years.

Surviving is a daughter, Mrs. Robert D. (LaVera) Meyer, Cedar Rapids and two sons, Dale Slager, Springville and Carroll Slager, Cedar Rapids. Others are seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Niswander, Marengo and Mrs. Dollie Jaynes, Marshalltown.

She was preceded in death by her husband, who died October 1946 and a son, Eldon, who died in the service.
