Celebration of life services for Elma M. Morrison, 94, North English, were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service, North English. She died Saturday, July 31, 2010, at the English Valley Care Center, North English. The Rev. Michelle Williamson officiated at the service. Burial was in the North English Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the North English United Methodist Church.

Elma May Morrison was born May 29, 1916, in the White Pigeon community near North English, the daughter of Charles and Bertha Bair Johnston. She attended the Webster Number Nine rural school and graduated from North English High School. She attended the Normal Training Program and taught at the one room country school she had attended as a child. She began her 59-year marriage to Albert Raymond Morrison, rural Keswick, March 13, 1937, in Oskaloosa. The couple farmed in Keokuk and Iowa counties until retiring, then moving to North English in 1975.

She was a member of the Millersburg United Methodist Church for many years, transferring membership to the North English United Methodist Church when they moved. She served as secretary to the pastoral parish relations committee, Three Rivers Parish, for several years and was a long-time member of the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, crocheting, reading and cooking. She was the ultimate homemaker. She became a resident of the English Valley Care Center as a result of a stroke in June 2004. In recent years, she became an avid fan of Iowa Hawkeye basketball and football.

Morrison is survived by one daughter and her husband, Connie and Gary Shaull, Overland Park, Kan.; one son and his wife, Ray and Kandi Morrison, Carrollton, Texas; six grandchildren and their spouses, Wendy Shaull, Kim and Pat Morrissey, all Overland Park; Lora Moberly, McKinney, Texas; Jeffrey Morrison, Austin, Texas; Kristine and Kris Houston, Texas, and Kristopher Green, Carrollton; four great-grandchildren, Julian and Jenna Moberly and Katherine and Kobe Lewis.

She was preceded in death by her husband, in June 1996; her parents; brothers, Eldon, Verne, Cloyd, Ward and Wade Johnston, and sisters, Ila Lown, Grace Morrison, Vivian Bair, Treva Wilhite and Tressie Morrison.
