Funeral Mass for Helen T. Osweiler, 77, South English, was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 16, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, North English. She died Thursday, Aug. 12, 2010, at the English Valley Care Center, North English. The Rev. Joseph Roost officiated at the service. Burial was in St. Patrick’s Little Creek Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for Alzheimer’s research. Powell Funeral Home, North English, was in charge of arrangements. Messages may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com.

Helen Theresa Osweiler was born Dec. 21, 1932, near Oxford, the daughter of Raymond and Consoleta (McCabe) Leeney. She graduated from Cosgrove High School. She married Joseph George Osweiler June 14, 1952, in Oxford. They made their home in rural South English. She worked as a secretary for Amana Refrigeration for a short time and then was a homemaker.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Altar and Rosary. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and playing golf.

Osweiler is survived by one son and his wife, Doug and Deena Osweiler, South English; three grandchildren, Leslie Osweiler, Williamsburg; Carissa Dietrich and husband Chris, Keswick, and Joseph Osweiler, South English; one brother and his wife, Gene and Bridgit Leeney, Oxford, and two sisters, Alice Kyle, Iowa City, and Jocile Leeney, Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and one brother, Raymond.
