Alice Scurlock Still, age 97, of Marengo, formerly of Williamsburg and Conroy died Friday, July 23, 2010 at Rose Haven Nursing Home in Marengo, following a brief illness. Funeral Services: 10:00 A.M. Friday, July 30, 2010 Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo with Rev. Sonda Kirsteatter officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Williamsburg, Iowa. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Thursday July 29, 2010, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. Memorials may be contributed to the First Presbyterian Church Choir Fund. Alice is survived by her daughter Carolyn Scurlock Meyer (Norman) of Williamsburg; a stepson, Arlyn Still (Cora) of West Liberty; a step-daughter Norene Dreessen (Robert) of Sioux City; seven grandchildren: Nathan Meyer (Sara) Eau Claire, WI, Lynne Meyer Elliott (Jim) McFarland, WI, Steve Meyer (Jen) of Brillion, WI, Denise Still of TX, Doug Still (fiancée Shelli Lancor) of Bellevue, Michelle Goodvin (Robert) of Sioux City, and David Dreessen (Karen) of Sioux City; 14 great-grandchildren: Annika and Britta Meyer, Kyle, Christian, Hope, and Carolyn Elliott, Dane Meyer, Kannon Still, Kayla, Benjamin, Anna, and Rebecca Dreessen, and Taylor and Kylee Goodvin. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother David Arnold Jones and his wife Helen, her first husband Vic Scurlock, and her second husband Howard Still. Alice Jones was born October 24, 1912 in rural Williamsburg, Iowa, the daughter of David M. and Bertha Long Jones. She received her education in the Conroy schools and graduated from Conroy High School in 1930. Alice attended the Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls and received her teaching certificate. She married Victor Scurlock on May 9, 1934 at the Presbyterian Church in Williamsburg. He died in 1959. She married Howard L. Still on February 6, 1965 at the Presbyterian Church in Williamsburg. He died in 1995. Alice was employed as a bookkeeper at O’Neill Oil Station and the Firestone Store in Williamsburg. She was the Conroy Postmaster for 20 years and also owned the Conroy Grocery Store. Alice was a lifetime member of the Williamsburg Presbyterian Church. She belonged to the Iowa County Postmasters and the National Postmasters Organization. She enjoyed bowling, traveling, and playing cards. She was a Hawkeye fan and had a collection of cardinals. Alice especially enjoyed attending the grandchildren’s activities
