Jane F. Sauerbrei, 88, of Waverly, Iowa, died Saturday morning, June 26, 2010, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo of natural causes.

Jane was born on May 21, 1922, in Vinton, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph F. and Maud A. (Hastings) Brechner. Jane graduated from Waverly High School in 1940 and then attended Wartburg College in Waverly. On July 24, 1942, she was united in marriage to Forrest James Sauerbrei at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly, where the couple made their home and raised their family.

Jane was a charter member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Waverly, where she had been a Sunday School Superintendent. Jane volunteered at the Waverly Senior Citizen Center and also received a 500 hour volunteer pin from Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community. Jane was a charter board member of the Waverly Hospital Auxiliary, had served as President of D.A.R., and was active in Girl Scouts.

Jane is survived by her husband, Forrest of Waverly, Iowa; her six children, James (Paulette) Sauerbrei of Marengo, Iowa, Ann (Larry) Pfantz of Marshalltown, Iowa, Mary (Carl) Achenbach of Anamosa, Iowa, Bill (Patty) Sauerbrei of Waterloo, Iowa, Bruce Sauerbrei of Waverly, Iowa, Brian (Jan) Sauerbrei of Iowa Falls, Iowa; 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Jane was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Charles in infancy, and a sister Ellen Brechner.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Waverly, with Rev. Paul Schaedig officiating. Burial will be in Harlington Cemetery in Waverly. Public visitation will be held on Monday, June 28th from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly.
