Marie Louise Ruedy, 98 yrs

Funeral services for Marie L. Ruedy, 98, Middle Amana, were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 26, at the Middle Amana Community Church. She died Tuesday, June 22, 2010, at Colonial Manor of Amana following a brief illness.

Church elder Mike Shoup officiated at the service.

Burial was in the Middle Amana Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Amana Church Society or the Amana Heritage Society.

Marie Louise Ruedy was born Aug. 27, 1911, in Middle Amana, the daughter of Carl and Elise Young Hergert. She attended Amana schools and worked in the communal kitchens until the change in 1932.

She married Fred C. Ruedy Nov. 23, 1935, in Middle Amana. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, as well as an accomplished cook and gardener.

She was a lifetime member of the Amana Church Society and the Amana Heritage Society. She was instrumental in the founding of the Communal Kitchen Museum in Middle Amana.

Ruedy is survived by her children and their spouses, George and Shirley, Cedar Rapids; Fred and June, Naples, Fla.; Ralph and Shirley, Staunton, Va., and Barbara and Ray Jorgensen, Waterloo; six grandchildren and their spouses, Todd and Patty Ruedy, Lakeville, Minn.; Mark and Margie Ruedy, Bettendorf; Anne Marie and Bill Stephens, Brooklyn; Carolyn Ruedy, Middle Amana; Elizabeth Ruedy-Townes and Miles Townes, Arlington, Va., and Daniel Ruedy, Fairfax, and five great-grandchildren, Adam, Grant and Grace Ruedy and Ella and Jack Stephens.

She was preceded in death by her husband, in 1976; her parents; one brother, Carl Hergert, and one sister, Helen Hoehnle.
