Funeral services for Leo J. Bean, 64, Houston, Texas, were held at 10:30 am Thursday, April 18, at Forest Park Lawndale Chapel, Houston. The Rev. Branden Cahill officiated.

Bean, a longtime Houston resident and former Williamsburg resident died Monday, April 15, 1991, after being ill with leukemia. He was the son of Ethel Bean Kuch, Williamsburg.

Burial was in Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery with full police honor guard. Pallbearers were Ronnie, Larry, Richard Jr., Eddie Jr., Bobby and Kevin Martinez.

Leo John Bean was born May 19, 1926, in rural Williamsburg, the son of Dewey and Ethel Klever Bean. He attended rural school in the area and graduated from Williamsburg High School.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II and following his discharge, he attended the University of Houston.

He retired from the Houston Police Department after 31 years. As a lifetime member of AMVETs, he held the office of national executive committee man and was named AMVET of the year in 1990.

Bean was also a member of the Police VFW 6010, HPO Association, American Legion Post 472, Park Place Masonic Lodge and the Arabia temple A.A.O.N.M.S., all Houston. He was also a member of Saint Francis Cabrini Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife, Caroline M. Bean; two sons, Rick J., Houston, and Michael J., Baton Rouge, La; one daughter, Patricia A. Warren, McAllen, Texas; grandsons, Patrick Freeman, Mc Allen and Christopher Bean, Austin, Texas; his mother, Ethel Bean Kuch, Williamsburg; one sister, Shirlene Van Fossen, Cedar Rapids, and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father.
