Final Rites for Henry Hofmaster Held Saturday

Henry Hofmaster, 70, of Marengo died Monday, Mar. 23 at McAllen, Tex., where he and his wife were spending the winter. Mr. Hofmaster had been in the hospital for nine days and then at home the five days prior to his death. Mr. Hofmaster was suffering of cancer and his death was also attributed to a heart attack.

Funeral services were Saturday, Mar. 28 at the First Methodist church in Marengo with Dr. Robert P. Robinson officiating.

Pallbearers were Kenneth Hoyt, Mervin Ringler, H.F. McCarty, Owen Tompkins, William Bennett and Lewis Felling.

Mrs. Emma Fiester, Mrs. Nel Sherlock and Mrs. Melvin Philips cared for the flowers. Music was provided by soloist, Mrs. Keith Wilson, accompanied by Mrs. Dean Rodgers, organist.

Mr. Hofmaster was born Sept. 2, 1884 at Adair, the son of Carl and Louise Brenner Hofmaster. He attended school at Adair and also rural school in Hilton Township of Iowa County. The Hofmaster family moved to the Marengo vicinity from Adair in 1903.

On Dec. 8, 1909 Henry Hofmaster and Mary Klever were married and they resided on a farm until in 1938 when they moved to Marengo.

Mr. Hofmaster was a member of the Odd Fellow lodge for 40 years, and a member of the First Methodist church. Friday evening, Mar. 27, IOOF memorial services were held at the Hoover-Valentine Funeral home.

Survivors are his wife, nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers and four sisters.
