A prayer service was held for William Michael McCune, 39, Williamsburg, Sunday, Feb. 28, at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Williamsburg. Bill died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010, at his home near Williamsburg.

William Michael McCune, was born Aug. 16, 1970, in Sigourney, the son of John Francis and Shirley Ann (Werner) McCune, Jr. He graduated from Williamsburg High School. He worked cutting concrete and coring for Iowa Bridge and Culvert, Washington. He was a life long resident of the Williamsburg Community.

He is survived by his mother Shirley, Williamsburg; his siblings: Katherine (Jay) Friesen, Tucson, Ariz.; Tom (Darlene) McCune, Cedar Rapids; Janet (Monte) Kugley, Homestead; Carolyn McCune, Des Moines; Kim McCune (fiancé Steve Fuhrmeister), Iowa City, and Barb McCune, Williamsburg; and a sister-in-law Joy McCune, Albert Lea, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his father John Jr. and a brother John III.

Burg man dies in fire

William McCune, 39, A rural Williamsburg, found dead in a mobile home fire Wednesday, Feb. 24

A rural Williamsburg man died in a mobile home fire Wednesday, Feb. 24.

The Williamsburg Fire Department responded to a fire approximately four miles southeast of town at the residence of William Michael McCune, 39, 2630 265th Street, at approximately 9:21 p.m. McCune was found dead at the scene. The mobile home is a total loss due to heavy fire damage.

The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time, but does not appear to be suspicious, according to the state fire marshal’s report. The fire is under investigation by the Iowa State Fire Marshal’s Office, with assistance from the Williamsburg Fire Department, the Iowa County Medical Examiner and the Iowa County Sheriff’s Office.
