Mary was born the daughter of James Patrick Martin and Frances Kory Borucki on November 12, 1916 in rural Victor, IA. She was raised on the family farm near Victor and she graduated in 1935 from St. John’s Catholic School in Victor.

She was united in marriage to Lawrence A. DeMeulenaere at 6:00 a.m. on January 2, 1939 at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Victor. Lawrence and Mary were blessed with three children: Faye, Judy and David. The couple farmed north of Victor for fifty years and following their retirement, they moved to Victor in 1989.

Mary was a member of the St. Bridget Catholic Church and the St. Bridget Altar and Rosary Society. Mary's family and friends were her life. She dearly loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and often looked forward to their phone calls and visits. Her enjoyments included family gatherings, playing cards and bingo, and their trips to places like Branson, Missouri, Alaska, California, Spain, and Yellowstone National Park.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Faye (Rick) Soer of Urbandale, Iowa; 3 grandchildren, Tony (Nicole) Soer of Dubuque, IA, Dave Ostrom of Des Moines, IA, Matt (Megan) Ostrom of Bettendorf, IA; 6 great grandchildren, Zachary, Joe and Elizabeth Soer, and Emma, Sarah and Anna Ostrom; her sister, Bernadine Schallau of Van Horne, IA; and her son-in-law, Gary Ostrom of Mt. Vernon, IA. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband L.A. DeMeulenaere on February 22, 1997; her infant son, David DeMeulenaere on July 1, 1945; her daughter, Judy Ostrom on December 19, 2009; her grandsons, Michael Soer on February 11, 1968 and Daniel Soer on March 25, 1994; and her brothers, John, Robert and Maurice Martin.
